Lumbini Tilaurakot Tour Overview

Lumbini Tilaurakot is a very special place in Nepal. It is where people come to learn about peace, kindness, and the life of a very wise person named Buddha. A long time ago, more than 2,600 years ago, Buddha was born in Lumbini. His real name was Siddhartha Gautama. He was a prince who lived a rich life but later gave it all up to find the truth about life and how to be truly happy.

Lumbini is where it all began. Today, when people visit Lumbini, they feel calm and peaceful. It has big gardens, tall trees, and beautiful temples from different countries like Thailand, China, and Japan. The most important part is the Maya Devi Temple. This is where Buddha was born. Inside the temple, you can see an old stone that marks the exact place where Queen Maya Devi gave birth to him.

Right next to the temple, there’s a small pond. People believe this is where the Queen bathed before giving birth. There is also the Ashoka Pillar, built by Emperor Ashoka from India. He visited Lumbini a long time ago to show respect to Buddha and placed the pillar there to remember his visit.

Now let’s talk about Tilaurakot. This place is not far from Lumbini. When Siddhartha was a little boy, he lived in Tilaurakot. It was the capital of the ancient kingdom called Kapilvastu. His father was the king there. So, Tilaurakot was once a big and beautiful palace area. Today, it’s mostly ruins. You can walk around and see the old palace walls and gates.

Even though the palace is gone, the place still feels special. People visit to imagine what Siddhartha’s life was like before he became Buddha. He grew up there, played in the palace garden, and learned many things. But even with all the riches, he felt something was missing. He wanted to understand why people suffer and how they can be truly happy.

That’s why he left Tilaurakot one night, quietly, without telling anyone. He wanted to find answers to big questions about life. That journey later made him the Buddha.

The Lumbini Tilaurakot area teaches us many lessons. It shows that even someone who had everything wanted to live a life of meaning. It reminds us that peace comes from inside, not from money or power.

People from many countries come to Lumbini Tilaurakot to meditate, pray, or just walk around and think. It is a calm and quiet place that helps people feel peaceful and strong. The air feels fresh, and the sound of birds and trees makes everything feel gentle.

If you ever visit Nepal, the Lumbini Tilaurakot area is a place worth seeing. It’s not just about looking at old buildings or temples. It’s about feeling something in your heart—something calm, kind, and true. That’s why so many people love it.

Lumbini Tilaurakot Tour Itinerary

Expand All

You can start this tour by either flying or driving. If you take a flight, it goes from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and takes around 35 minutes. After that, it’s a short 30-minute drive to Lumbini. If you like long road trips, you can also drive the full way from Kathmandu to Lumbini. It takes around 8 hours to cover about 321 kilometers. After reaching Lumbini, we check into a hotel and take some rest for the night.

After breakfast, we start our tour of Lumbini. This area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is very important for people who follow Buddhism. It is 6 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide and was designed as a peaceful place to learn about Buddha.

We begin at the New Tourist Village. Then we visit the World Peace Pagoda, a beautiful white structure with a golden Buddha statue. After that, we explore the Lumbini Museum, which shares stories and objects related to the life of Buddha.

Next, we visit the monastic zone. This place has many monasteries built by different countries like Thailand, Japan, and others. These buildings show how people all over the world respect Buddha.

At the heart of Lumbini is the Mayadevi Temple. This is where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Buddha. Inside the temple, we can see the Marker Stone, the statue of baby Buddha, and the remains of very old walls from over 2,000 years ago. We also see the Ashoka Pillar, built by King Ashoka to mark Buddha’s birthplace. This ends our second day in Lumbini Tilaurakot.

On the third day, we drive to different important places near Lumbini Tilaurakot. Our first stop is Tilaurakot, the ancient city of Kapilavastu. This is where Buddha lived as a prince for 29 years before he left to find peace.

Next, we go to Kudan. This is where Buddha met his father again after becoming enlightened. His father built a place here for Buddha and his followers to stay. Then, we visit Gotihawa, where another Buddha, Krakuchanda Buddha, was born.

We continue to Niglihawa, the birthplace of Kanakmuni Buddha. Lastly, we go to Sagarhawa, a place where a sad story from the Shakya people’s history is remembered. After visiting all these important spots, we return to Lumbini for the night.

In the morning, we leave for Devdaha. This was the home of Buddha’s mother, Queen Mayadevi, and his wife, Princess Yasodhara. It is also where Buddha spent part of his childhood.

After Devdaha, we visit Ramgram. Here, we see an old stupa that holds one part of Buddha’s relics. It was built by the King of Ramgram long ago. After visiting these last places, we return to Kathmandu by car or by flight. Our Lumbini Tilaurakot Tour ends here.
